ROMA

Just worked up some linseed oil lino cuts of some type logos for my friends ROMA surf-shop. A great small local company run by my lovely friends, the hardworking Rob Morgan.

Not only is Rob a talented surfer, photographer with an eye for everything but he's horribly humble and kind.

I created ROMA's logos hand printing and with a relief press, took 2 days to dry (due to linseed oil ink) then started working on colourings and digital merging with film photos for their imagery and advertising. I also wanted to create some narrative strange tales and thoughts adding simple line-work illustration to the mix, that works well with the beautiful, nostalgic, authentic feeling film images that rob has been taking.

Really enjoying it, love working with others and in particular to see where collaboration leads in terms of mind-merging fresh thinking and a mutual desire for pushing yourself with your hobbies/passions/skills/ to love your work and feel inspired to go out and do it!

so go check out ROMA , the boards are stunning.

“Life does not consist mainly, or even largely, of facts and happenings. It consists mainly of the storm of thought that is forever flowing through one's head.
Marc Twain

hello all, and on this the day of the stormy warnings i have spent and evening in with the rain outside (after too much fun surfing and having sunny weather) and have managed to just finished up one of my projects on the go atm.

Along side this i came across an open invite from Element Eden whilst looking through their latest collections for autumn/winter.  To artists/photographers/creatives in general to post images on a board titled by the competition on pinterest to win the chance to be an advocate and artist with the company. for me its a lovely opportunity to just work on some new pieces, feel inspired and have a few new poeple stumble accross your work. there is some fantastic stuff on there and its interesting to see the updates and new posts.

There will also be some prints available soon so keep eyes on the shop.

Till then..... have a oggle at some bits n bobs- slip into a comfy pair of fishermans wellies, light the lanterns warm up some soup and bring on the storm oooooooof excited.

Due to the super fun surf conditions of last week i was ridiculously unproductive. But as i bust my ankle on the rocks and it being the size of a adult rhino, means i cannot go gallivanting about with the dog on the coastline, but actually do some work for once ...positive/negative.

I'm back to working on the final stages of a cover design for the children's book iv been working on this year, which im looking forward to completing. I just have a few more tweaks then meeting with the lovely author in oxford, and i look forward to it making the start of its journey. I will update you all when its out in the world.

I also had the paper watch charity auction a few weeks back for Templar Publishing.
This was a fun little brief with a speedy turnaround time for me as i was one of the last to receive mine, which sometimes is a blessing as i do have a tendency to faff and re-do and re-jig and not sleep if im given a lot of time.

With a great bunch of different talented illustrators involved - paper watches were sent out to decorate however they saw fit , pens, ink, paint, collage ...anything - then the watches are going to be auctioned off to raise money for breast cancer care- a lovely outcome for a little but of fun.

For mine, id had this idea a few weeks ago while whilst walking at my favourite dog walking location of baggy point about a narrative image, or possible short story about a strange egg found by the seagulls.......
This seemed like a interesting starting point for a odd...funny...image to work with on the watch.
It also allowed me to use the length of the watch with sea and sky , incorporate type and use the face of the watch as a focal point of the narrative.....So i gave myself 2 days and wanted a slight 3d element to the image to add tactile and tangible elements to the tale - so i added my text separately on scrolls of brown paper to keep it simple.

I used brusho water dispersal inks - a firm favourite of mine, then watercolour, pencil and fine liner - tho i found the fine liner bled a little on the watches surface so avoided too much use, the text was hand painted with Indian ink and tiny paintbrush.

I've loved watching the watches roll in updated on twitter + facebook and seeing how everyone did with their open brief. Good luck and happy money raising for a great charity X

thanks tarns

Working with some hand painted fonts for the last few month with lots of different projects, one i really enjoyed was painting a thank you card for a friends wedding. A fun little card for a pair of ruddy good eggs, lots of happy love to their life adventures together as tarns.

rvca wetsuit design

Ah happy bunny,
woke up this morn to an email from cooler to say i was one of the 5 finalists of their
LIMITED EDITION RVCA WETSUIT competition.
Unfortunately didn't win the gorgeous wetsuit but it was fun to do, and looking forward to experimenting with screen printing and drawing onto different materials like neoprene soon.

It was also picked by one of my favourite creative humans,  Miss Margaux Arramon-Tucoo, who also designed the ltd edition wetsuit. I have a shared love of inks and line work and symmetry  Go have a look at her blogs and travels , and her photographs and layerings are very beautiful.
here's what i submitted
and some work of miss margaux to admire below .
Happy Tuesday

letterfest

i have also been working recently with a local company called Letterfest whilst my friend is off for paternity leave as he welcomes his new egg to the world. Iv taken his place obsessively drawing buildings as architecturally accurate as possible with loose freehand style, which has caused me to go mildly insane as i try to get faster , eyes have been crossing but its slightly fun. If your thinking of a unique gift go have a look they create beautiful pieces for all occasions

Here are some examples of what iv been upto.
